Corrections policy
1. Our standard
When Most Viral Today gets something wrong, we fix it and say so. A correction is a visible note on the story with the date and a plain description of what changed. We do not quietly rewrite a published claim and carry on as if it had always read that way.
Spelling, grammar and formatting fixes that do not change the meaning of a story are made without a note.
A story that has changed in substance also shows an “Updated” date beside its publication date, so you can see at a glance that it is not the version first published.
2. Corrections, clarifications and updates
- Correction. We published something that was wrong, such as a name, a place, a date, a number or the credit for a clip. The note says what was wrong and what it now says.
- Clarification. What we published was accurate but could be misread, or left out context that changes how it reads. The note explains what we have added or reworded.
- Update. The story has moved on since we published, for example the creator has shared more detail or an official account has been released. The note says what is new.
Each note appears in a labelled box on the story, newest first.
3. How to report an error
Use the editorial route on our contact page. It helps us act quickly if you include:
- the link to the story
- what you believe is wrong
- anything that shows the correct information, such as a link, a document or your own first-hand account
If you filmed or own material we have used and want it credited differently or removed, please use the rights route on the same page instead, so it reaches the people who handle licences.
4. What happens next
- We aim to review reports within two working days.
- An editor checks the report against the story and its sources.
- If we were wrong, we fix the story and add a dated note explaining the change.
- If we believe the story is accurate, we will tell you why when you have given us a way to reply.
Serious errors, such as a wrongly identified person, are dealt with as soon as we confirm them.
5. Partner platforms
Some of our stories also appear on partner platforms such as MSN. Those platforms take the current version of the story from us, so a correction reaches them through our next update to their feed.
